Kik and I attended an "Evening with Margaret Atwood" last night at USF (lecture series). I've only read The Handmaid's Tale, but it was more than enough to persuade me to join Kik and it was certainly worth it. I won't bother trying to do justice to her writing ability but as an orator she is a paradox. She read her notes mostly head down, her weakish voice was monotone, yet the experience was quite wonderful. She is witty -- and even more she enjoys her own jokes which for some can detract but for her only serves to make her more endearing.
She loves birds and 50's B-movies.
She likened the book reviews she does to giving blood...one doesn't really care to do it but one may need some oneself someday and there may not be any. Plus they give you a cookie.
She would be a terrific dinner guest. Maybe I will have her over sometime.
