We had a great time. Saturday we had lunch with Kik's grandparents. Her grandmother prepared roast, fried ocra, white beans (I forgot the variety), mashed potatoes, corn bread (with and without cracklins), meat gravy, deviled eggs and beets. There was almost enough to go around. ; )
We spent the rest of the afternoon looking through photo albums and listening to wisdom imparted through tales of the past. It was all quite wonderful. I posted some photos of photos from the albums of Kik, her sister, her parents and her grandparents.
Sunday was hiking day. T led us on a beautiful walk through the plantation. A few friends joined us and we walked with a total of six dogs. We all had a great time. Our dogs were in heaven. There was deer poop everywhere and Milo got to go for her first official swim (the kiddie pool didn't really count). Little 'Lo got so tuckered that she started lying down and curling into a little circle on the final stretch - perhaps in hopes that we wouldn't see her and would just leave her in peace.
Unfortunately there was a bit of an "incident" involving Jezebel and Amanda's cat Frodo. Both animals made it out unscathed, but T suffered a flesh wound. She was a trooper and we continued with our plans to have friends out for a fire and the L-word. Kik and I couldn't make it through the whole episode (though I couldn't help but giggle at the life-size cardboard Erin/Dana cutout. She must have thought that a riot.)
Yesterday T and Amanda drove us around Tallahassee. We went to Lake Ella where Joe of Joe's bike's handed me the craziest full suspension mountain bike and insisted I take it around the lake. He prefaced with "don't worry about the price." It was insanely fun.
And of course the weekend wouldn't have been complete without oysters at Barnacle Bill's on North Monroe. T and Amanda were incredibly gracious hosts and Kik and I had such a nice time due in much part to their company. Thanks so much ladies. (I will link to Amanda's pictures of the weekend as soon as she gets them up. Links to Amanda's pictures have been added. And I couldn't find a place to link to this sweet one of our dogs waiting for a treat. Too cute.)
