More updates:
Brian just called from Tallulah Gorge. He's getting into some serious hills and his legs are complaining a little. Still pressing on. He will ride only about 30 miles today to his Grandpa's cabin where he will stay for a night and get a chance to ride around sans trailer for a day before heading on his way.
UPDATE: I was sick over the weekend and didn't hear from Brian. I
received a text last night letting me know that he will be near Atlanta
tonight. I should get to talk with him and I'll have an actual update
tomorrow. Go Bri!
My cousin Brian has set out on a bike tour from Tampa (actually his folks insisted on dropping him off a bit north in Bushnell to get him started) to San Diego through Virginia. You heard right, by way of Virginia. I think he missed a day or so of US geography, but the kid's got spunk and I'm rooting for him. His thoughts on heading so far north is to bypass the Texas route where he would otherwise spend a third of the trip. Plus, he tells me, this way he'll get to go through the Appalachians AND the Rockies! Good grief. Anyway, let's live vicariously through his journey with a little mapping action, mkay?
I bring you: Brian Van Fleet's Bike Tour on Google Maps. I'll keep it updated and I'll report back stories from the road. I've got a doozy of a roadkill story, but we'll get back to that another day.

Mr. B called yesterday and asked how to stretch his IT band because his knee was hurting. Apparently the bum soreness has subsided enough to let him focus on other aches. When I called later to see how the knee was doing, he no longer cared about that pain. During the day he had gotten 3 flats and had to walk his bike and goods for 2 miles. There's a fine line between determination and insanity. Go bro go!
Go Brian Go! He should be famous for this hehehehe
After being held up for 3 days in a Missouri hotel (due to stormy weather), he is finally back on the road... or the path, or whatever he is riding on. Today he is in a black hole for cell coverage and Mom was starting to panic. Luckily, the local library has this thing called the internet. Suffice to say, all is well - minus a pulled calf, which will not slow him down. Amy, he has some sweet KY stories that you've got to hear.
